What is Gliclazide used for?

Gliclazide is used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. It helps control blood sugar levels when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not enough.

How does it work?

Gliclazide belongs to the sulfonylurea class of medicines. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, which helps lower blood sugar levels.

How do I take it?

• Usual dose: One tablet (60mg) once daily, preferably with breakfast

• Swallow whole with water—do not crush or chew

• Dosage may vary depending on your doctor's instructions

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects:

• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): symptoms include sweating, shakiness, hunger, dizziness

• Headache

• Nausea

Less common but serious:
